Existence of Periodic Solutions in Inhomogeneous Toda Lattice

A periodic Toda Lattice with impurity is investigated numerically. It is found that there exist"resistant" periodic soltntions for some special valtues of the impurity mass. When perturbationand total energy become sufficiently large, chaos is generated. However the resistant periodicsolutions do not disappear and two of them divide the chaos region into three subregions whichhave different natures. Spatial coexistence of stationary chaos and nonstationary chaos is ob-served. Consequently, the existence of stmch resistant periodic solutions suggests that solitonlikeexcitations propagate without collapsing in media which incltrde impurities.
