In this paper we report the variation of the Electro-optic Kerr relaxation time (τ)with temperature at and above the nematic to isotropic phase transition (T_<NI>) in a polar nematic Liquid crystal 4-(trans-4'-n Pentylcyclohexyl) Benzonitrile (PCH-5). The measurements ofτ and the Electro-optic Kerr constant (B) have been made using an indigeneously built square pulse generator with a fall time of 45 nanoseconds. The variations of B andτ with temperature have been found to follow the predictions of the Landau-de Gennes theory for pretransitional behaviour in Liquid crystals.
