The Pbnm-+P2./n ferroelastic phase transition in plaenothiazine is studied using a6-exp atorn-atom potential energy fu?action. Important couplings between the shearstrain e, and molecular reorientation and between e, and the totally symmetric e.strain have been found in agreement with experiunents. The first-c>rder transitioncharacter is discussed in terms of the phenomenological l,andau tlaeccry.
