Cation impurity associated self-trapped excitons in KBr : Na and KBr : Li arestudied within the extended-ion approximation. It is found that the light cation impurity "traps" the molecule ton by creating a potential bump which prevents a larger ax-ial off-center displacement. This explains the changes observed in cation dopedmaterials regarding the 7Z band Stokes shift, lifetime and also the F center creationefficiency at low temperatures.
