The near edge fine structure of the X-ray Raman spectra in Li, Be and graphite wasmeasured in an inelastic X-ray scattering experiment with 0.8 eV resolution. The X-ray Raman spectrum has been confirmed experimentally for (v<0,3 to be equivalentto the corresponding soft X-ray absorption spectrum, where hq is the momentumtransfer and a is the orbital radius of the inner-shell electrons. Anisotropic X-rayRaman spectra were observed for Be and graphite. Several experimental advantagesof X-ray Raman scattering either over XUV-absorption experiment on low-Zelements or even over electron energy loss spectroscopy are stressed: true bulk infor-mation, admission of special environments, easy access to angular dependent information, small contributions of multiple scattering, higher-pole transitions for larger q,absolute scaling by means of sum rules.
