Reflectivity and Absorption Spectra of CoS_2

Reflectivitv sr>ectra of a sinzle crvstal of a metallic ferromaxnet Coin weremeasured between 0.5 and 5.0 eV at room temperature in air. Photon energydependencies of or>tical constants n and k, an absorrtion coefficient ct and realand imaginary parts of dielectric constant 2 (=e'-l-/s ' ) have been obtained fromthe Kramers-Kronis analvsis of the reflectivit>z data. Absorrtion spectrum or athin polycrystalline film was also measured, which proved to be in quantitativeagreement with the one deduced from the reflectivity spectrum. From the curveof e' the free electron plasma frequency co, was located at 0.8 eV from whichnumber of free electrons was evaluated to be 0.5 per a CoS. molecule.
