Comr>act toroidal rlasma has been exrerimentall>r obtained in a drum-typecor>r>er vessel on inJectinn an annular rlasma stream fro.m a maxnetized plasmasun. Toroidal and roloidal masnetic fields, Be and Bv, of the r>lasma toroid snowa typical exponential decay with l10ps and no MHD instability is observed.Experimental data of B. and B, configuration for long confinement are describedfairly well by the model, which is the fundamental-mode state of the minimumenergy force-free equilibrium estimated from the low-p limit Grad-Shafranovequation. The configuration of the stable plasma is hence fully-determined by themetal vessel geometry.
