• Optical and thermal properties of the Z. band have been investigated in KCIcrystals doped with various alkaline earth impurities. It is found that colorcenters associated with the Z. band actually consist of two different types of radia-tive centers, which are designated as Z4S and Z4L, and non-radiative centers. Theomission peak of the Z.5 center is essentially independent of the kind of divalentimpurities, while that of the Z4. center varies with the impurities.
