Investigation of ^9B and ^9Be Levels in a Kinematically Complete ^9Be (p,pn)^8Be Experiment

Low-lying excited states of 'Be and 'B were investigated in a kinematicallycomplete 'Be( p, pw)'Be experintent. A pulsed beam and TOE" technique was usedfor obtaining good time resolution and for the reduction of random coincidencesalong the zip-L-'Be focus. The (pf'Be) decay probability of the 2.36 Me'V state of 'B was determined tobe (19.J.5)3, while its analog state, the 2.43 MeV state of 'Be, decays (1142)%into o-[-'Be when the 7-decay is neglected. The existence of the first excited stateof 'B around E.z 1.6 MeV cannot be confirmed. However, there is some evidenceof a gfOL1p of events on the rTo-l-'Be focus at f,('B)=2.1 MeV.
