Determination of the Crystal-Field Splittings of Dy^<3+>, Er^<3+> and Ce^<3+> by the Gd^<3+> Reference

The crystal-field splittings between the ground and the first excited states $\Delta$ of magnetic ions Dy3+, Er3+ and Ce3+ have been acquired from the temperature-dependent ratio of the intensity of the Gd3+ EPR to the EPR intensity of the magnetic ions. From our best fits we obtain $\Delta{\approx}80$ K and 30 K for Dy3+ in YP and YAs, respectively; $\Delta{\approx}45$ K and 22 K for Dy3+ in LaP and LaAs; $\Delta{\approx}120$ K and 70 K for Er3+ in YP and YAs; and $\Delta{\approx}22$ K for Ce3+ in LaSb.
