Quasi-two Dinensional Electronic State of the Antiferromagnet UPtGa_5

• We have carried out de Haas-van Alphen (dHvA) experiment to clarify the Fermi surface propertyof an antiferromagnet UPtGa_5, and have constructed the magnetic phase diagram from the high-fieldmagnetization measurement. From the dHvA experiment, the Fermi surface is found to consist of fourkinds of nearly cylindrical Fermi surfaces along the tetragonal [001] direction, which are approximatelyexplained by the result of the spin-polarized energy hand calculations based on the antiferromagneticstructure with a sequence of (↑↓) along [001]. Relatively large cyclotron masses are detected for carriersof the corresponding Fermi surfaces, ranging from 10 to 24m_0 (m_0 : rest mass of an electron). 5ƒ electrons are thus concluded to be itinerant and also to contribute to the magnetic moment at the uranium sites.
