The drag of a circular cylinder set in uniform motion impulsively from rest in a viscous fluid is calculated. On the assumption of small Reynolds numbers, Oseen's equations for unsteady motion are employed. The two limiting cases corresponding to the initial and final periods, respectively, are investigated.
