We have done a new arrangement which allows us to bomb a sample with ions and at the same time examine its structure. In these conditions we obtain a progressive scouring of the superficial coats; electron diffraction gives information about the structure so laid bare. In this paper we first describe the experimental method and give an example referring to the study of the gold coats laid down on different props. So it's possible to study continuously the relations of epitaxy between the prop and the metal laid down in various conditions. Then we point out the limits of that method and the causes of error.
