The production of the penetrating showers in paraffin and graphite was studied by a cloud chamber connected with a hodoscope at an elevation 2760 meters, geomagnetic latitude 25゜N. Results indicate: (1) There is an evidence of multiple production of mesons in the collision of an incident nucleon with a hydrogen nucleus. (2) There is no appreciable difference between paraffin and graphite in the projected angle distribution of lightly ionizing shower particles with respect to the primary particles. (3) The flux of ionizing particles which produce the local penetrating showers is (3.0±0.4) × 10^<-5>/cm^2. sec. sterad.
