Optical dephasing in a ntrtnber of crystalline samples of Y203: Eu" prepared by two differentcrystal-growth techniques were measvrred using two ptrlse photon echo rnethod. For crystalsprepared by a laser-heated pedestal growth, we report the dephasing rate, l/T., at l.4K isup to two orders of magnitude f'aster than that previttosly reported for the flame fusion growthcrystal. The spatial dependence of the optical dephasing rate, naeasured by TPPE (two-ptrlsephoton echo), tells that the environrnents of echo prodtrcing ions at least highly depend onthe spatial position which can not be detected by conventional laser spectroscopy techniques, stuggesting two-ptrlse photon echo experiment can l.ce served as a tool for probing the unif'ormityof the samples.
