Tl'lCl 527-crn ' Ratnan band of a-boron, xv1aicl? has been recently assigned as a librationaluauode, exhibits a very narrow linewidth. The uauecl'xanism of this narroxv linewidtla is sttrdiedfrorau the viewpoint of anharrnonic effects of phonons. The density of states which is responsibleto the decay processes is rather large. Anlaarraaonic force constants of' indnvrdual bonds areevaltrated froun the presstrre depenadence on the Pl1OIl0l'l ['requencies, and are fotnrad to be n?otsrauall. Accordingly, by tluese txvo f'actors oraly, tlae linexvidtla cotrld not be as narroxv as observed.It is f'otrt'?d that the essential catrse of tlae narroxv linewidtlt is its exceptionally ltugh freqtrency.This znakes the therunal factor f'or the trp-conversion processes staaall exzen art [00111 temperatture.
