Electronic states in a Hubba.rd chaiut trnder an overall confitting jcotential, where electronttunneling throtugh 21 Htrbbard gap is seen, are investigated by the Larrezos method. Tlae nutnericatlrestrlts suggest that off'-resonance lcetween tire ends of the chtvin reduces tunneling amplitudethrough a Htrbbard g?tp in the center of' the chain, when the confining poteuntial is asytnmetric. This asynnrnetry can induce electron tunneling throtrgh a Hubb?rrd gap even in a chain with anodd number of electrons.
