• In this report, a modified Lorenz systetn is introdtrced for describing convective tnotion heatedf'rom below with a sinusoidal difl'erential heating. The system includes two additional termswhich intensifies the vorticity and stabilizes the temperature field. These two terms bring a newcomplex behavior. For a large horizontal temperature difference, the onset of chaotic convectionis sttppressed by the temperature difl'erence and the rnarginal Rayleigh ntrttaber is proportionalto h', where h is the horizontal difference in Rayleigh nurnbers. However, chaotic convectionappears in a broad range of Rayleigh ntrrnbers,
