• The Born equation for calculating hydration energy for different ions in water hasbeen modified. Only the information based on the solvent atad ions are needed whileusing the equation. No adjustable parameters are required. Application of the equa-tion has been extended to 8. variety of solvents with the dielectric constant varyingfrom 1 to 182. The calculated solvation energies are in good agreement with the ex-perimental ones. Similar calculations are also made for several aprotic solvents.
