The pressure dependence of the Brillouin scattering frequency shift of MnF. showsa discrete jump near the phase transition pressure of 1.49GPa with increasingpressure. The phase transition was coxafirmed to be a first-order one from thehysteresis on the pressure dependence of the sound velocity, in addition to thediscrete jump in sound velocity. The soft<:ning of the acoustic mode coupled with thesoft B.. optical mode was not observed, contrary to the recent molecular dynamicalsimulation of Si0z. The phase transition mechanism seems to be somewhat differentfrom the rutile-CaClz type.[Bri1]ouin scattering, M11F2, pressure-induced phase transition, SiOz, high ll pressure, DACl
