An envelope soliton in a nonlinear lattice has been studied theoretically andnumerically. First, the nonlinear Schr6dinger equation describing a lattice wave withlarge wave number is derived and then the equation of motion for the nonlinear Rattice is solved numerically taking the one envelope soliton solution of the nonlinearSchr6dinger equation as an initial wave. It is shown that the envelope soliton withzero group velocity exists stably in the lattice and that the frequency of carrier wave isabove the cut-off frequency of the lattice. An intrinsic localized mode in the nonlinearlattice developed by Takeno is pointed out to be the envelope soliton with zero groupvelocity.
