An analytical solution of the high-pressure Riemann problem for solids whichsatisfy the Griineisen type equation of state has been obtained. Square of acoustic im-pedance along an isentrope passing through any thermodynatnic states is written as apolynomial of the homogeneous solution, X of the differential equation for the isen-tropic pressure change. The form of equation of :;tate, p(v, e) were calculated basedon this assumption. Furthermore, elastic effects are included into the equation ofstate, and the von Mises yielding condition is assumed to bc valid up to very highpressures. As a typical example, the elastic-plastic Riemann jcroblem for the case ofaluminum are solved after rather simple calculation.[high-pressure shock wave, Riemann problem, elastic-plastic flow, numerical lf methodl
