The dielectric properties of the binary phase mixture have been investigatedtheoretically in the effective medium approximation with applications to porousglasses and Mg-PSZ. It is shown that the static dielectric constant of porous glassdepends very little upon the pore geometry and size, but can be used for estimatingthe porosity of the material. In the far-infrared absorption of Mg-PSZ, we show thatthe calculated effects of the microstructure of the constituent phase are significant onthe excitation spectra of the surface polaritons.[dielectric constant, binary-phase system, porous glass, Mg-PSZ, far infrared ab- l] sorption, surface polaritonsl
