An application of the catastrophe theory to a phenomenological description of atwo-critical-point system with a special reference to rochelle salt has been developed.A suitable diffeomorphism from the butterfly potential is proposed in order to represent known dielectric and thermal properties of rochelle salt, as well as pressureeffects and mixing effects with NH. ion to it. Some properties expected experimentallyare predicted by the theory.
