Magnetic properties of single crystals of the non-stoichiometric spinel Z0...6-Mn..,Fe....0. have been studied by "Fe M6ssbauer spectroscopy. The divalentFe ions are located only at octahedral sites. The cation distribution was deducedfrom a spectrum taken with a large magnetic field applied to the sample. A valueof the lattice constant was calculated from the distribution and is consistent witha value measured by X-ray diffraction. The magnetic moments of Fe ions areshown to be collinear. M6ssbauer spectra confirm that below about 240 K theeasy magnetic axis is along the [1114 direction. A significant influence of residualstress anisotropy on the intensities of Zeeman lines is observed at temperaturesclose to 240 K.
