Recombination luminescence (m and a) in Kl has been observed with red lightstimulation after or during exposure at 78 K to UV light. Using a pulse annealingtechnique, the hopping migration of V. centers is studied by monitoring thedecrease of the photostimulated luminescence as a function of time and tempera-ture. It is confirmed that the long-range diffusion of VK centers is characterizedby a thermal activation energy of 0.27 eV. When a preexposed sample is warmedto 124 K, subsequent red irradiation at 78 K is found to stimulate the E. (3.02 eV)emission in place of the 7J emission. This can be regarded as evidence in favor ofthe extrinsic nature of the E. emission. Thermal quenching of the E., 7C and oemissions is also investigated in detail under UV light excitation. On the basis ofthese results, we discuss the nonradiative decay process of the self-trapped excitonsin Kl.
