The longitudinal relaxation ol' individual resonance lines in an AX spin systemin dichloroacetaldehyde was observed by the saturation-recovery method underdouble resonance. A second radio-frequency field continuously stirred either oftwo lines of the proton different from the one to which the observed line belonged.This stirring field was not too strong to result in any appreciable splitting of theobserved line. It was found that the recovery from saturation ccculd be acceleratedby the stirring field when the stirred line was progressively connected to theobserved. The acceleration occurred only for an appropriate range of the ampli-tude of the stirring field. A brief account of this phenomenorn is given in termsof a nutational motion of the stirred spin.
