• The problem of unsteady heat transfer from a solid sphere, performing har-monic oscillations in an unbounded viscous fluid otherwise at rest, is investigatedfor small values of the Reynolds number. The analysis on the temperature fieldis carried out up to the third order of the Reynolds number. The time-averagedNusselt number is obtained. The mechanisms of the oscillatory heat transfer areclarified theoretically.
