• Magnetic circular dichroism of the lowest exciton absorption bands of Nal,Kl and Rbl is studied and effective y-values arc obtained under the rigid shiftassumption. The effective y-valtaes are found to be of the ox'der of unity, andsmaller in the heavier alkali iodides.
