Role of Conjogate Slip in Diformation of Cu-10at%Al Single Crystals

'the specimens were deformed up to fracturc and the dislocation structures ateach stage of deformation have been observed in wide regions with a 3MV elec-tron nxicroscope. Restutls show that the conjugate slip is closely related to eachstage of deformation as follows: l) 'the dislocations of cccnjugate system arewidely dispersed on the primary slip bands by the primary slip and interactwith the dislocations of primary system to form the hexagonal networks. 2)'the primary slip bands arc successively work-hardened by the process, and thentire dislocations of conjugate system gradually pile up against them. 3) The pile-up dislocations of conjugate system can move through most of the primary slipbands so that the deformation proceeds mainly by the conjugate slip at thebeginning of stage III deformation. 4) 'the conjtzgate slip also causes the reac-tivation of sterile primary slip bands in local regions.
