Nonlinear, dispersive wave propagation along electrical transmission lines isstudied. From the equivalent circuits of those experimental models nonlinearevolution equations are derived. Thus suitable electrical circuits should be usefulto study solutions of selected wave equations, which is confirmed by experiments. For that purpose, a transmission line with small quadratic nonlinearity and weakcubic dispersion is considered to yield the wellknown characteristics of theKorteweg-de Vries equation (KdV equation). In addition, typical lossy termslead to expanded equations, the KdV-Btu'gers equation for example. Recentresults of experimental investigations on soliton development and interaction arepresented. Main emphasis is laid upon a throughout quantitative comparisonwith theory. The influence of dissipation finally restricts the use of the conservativeKdV equation. The limitations due to typical losses of the experimental circuitarc discussed.
