Average electron energy loss<18>per collision has been calculated in solid andliquid argon, krypton and xenon from published electron transport data. Thegeneral features of the energy loss are explained in terms of Schockley's elasticsphere model on the mobility of hot electrons. Electron energy relaxation hasbeen calculated by using<18>and momentum transfer cross sections measured byShibamura et al.
