Formation Process of Vacancy Clusters in Quenched Metals

The new rate equations for the formation process of a vacancy cluster in the fcclattice have been derived by incorporating the diffusion motion of vacancies inthe lattice. It is clarified that the concentration of clusters in each size calculatedby the new rate equations is lowe'r than that by the rate equations of Cotterill typeduring the initial aging, and time dependence of pre-exponential factor in the newrate equations considerably affects the clustering of vacancies at low temperatureduring the initial aging.
