The formation of a vacancv in the diamond structural crvstal is studied bvQ computer simulation as a many body problem of classical particles interactingyith the noncentral force of the Kccating strain energy potential. The simulationstarts with makinu a vacant site in the rerfect crvstal. The relaxation of atoms3round the vacant site is resisted by the restoring force of bond-bendings towardsthe equilibrium angle to be balanced stationarily by forming a stable vacancy.Withottt taking into account this noncentral force interaction, the formation ofa vacancy is impossible. The formation and migration energies of a vztcancy andthe formation energy of a divacancy in Si and Ge are obtained from th<c computersimulations.
