• The interaction between short surface waves and long internal waves in a twolaver fluid has been investisated b>' a multirle scale method. When the gt0Upvelocity of surface waves is equal to the phase velocity of internal wave, the steadysolutions that represent the envelope of surface wave group and the internal wavecourlins stronsl>' with each other and moving with the same sreed have beenobtained.According to the relative magnitude of amplitudes of short and long waves,too different cases>namelv, (1) ax/a,=0Ce), (2) at/a,=O(1), where ax, a, are ampli..tudes of long and short waves respectively, have been analysed individually.
