' Excitation of dissipative drift wave turbulence with waves propagating perpen-dicular to the density gradient is studi<hd numerically, taking an average over thegradient coordinate. Both 'situations where the plasma current is the main sourceof instability and situations more close to an ordinary dissipative drift wave, excitation have been investigated in the presence of finite fi effects and ion viscosity. The main saturation mechanism has been quasilinear modification of the back-ground density. In addition to the usual current induced growth, the current isalso found to. decrease the finite 73 stabilization.
