Reduction of the Boussinesq Type of Equation to Modified Hirota Equation

A model equation as above (Boussinesq form) which governs the lattice waveand shallow water waves, has been reduced to a modified form of Ilirota equationfor intermediate range of wave number (A<1), considering the case when thecentral wave number k and the spectral width Ak -e of the wave packet areboth smaller than unity but of comparable magnitude. For the modified Hirotaequation, the envelope soliton solution is obtained and the condition for modula-tional instability is derived. This is found to differ appreciably from thecorresponding condition for non-linear Schr6dinger equation.
