A high density and high pressure plasma was produced behind a reflectedshock wave. Test gases are argon, krypton, and xenon. The temperature andthe pressure were experimentally determined. The electron det'tsity was calculatedfrom the measured temperature and pressure and it ranges front 10"/cc to 10"/cc.The xenon and the krypton plasmas were black body radiators in the visibleregion. The temperature is close to the Rankine-Hugoniot value for argon plasmabut it is below the R-H value for krypton and xenon. The temperature is relativelylow (10000 K -16000 K) so that the "plasma parameter" is larger than l. Themaximum value of it is 7.
