The differential cross sections for the capture of electrotts from carbon foilsby protons of energy between 100 keV to 4 MeV into the Is, 2s, 2p hydrogenstates have been calculated in the Born approximation. The effect of the nodesof the hydrogen wave function on the differential cross sections is shown bycomparing the differential cross sections for capture into the Is and 2p states withthat for capture into the 2s state. The velocity dependences of the total crosssections are obtained. The total cross section for capture into the 2p hydrogen state agrees well withthe experimental values obtained by Lyman alpha measurement. Both theoreticaland experimental implications of the results are discussed.
