The elastic scattering of intermediate energy electrons from hydrogen molecules hasbeen investigated using the optical eikonal approximation. The optical potentialconsists of the first order static potential and a second order potential which accountsfor the polarization effects as well as for the absorption effects. The exchange effectshave been included through the Ochkur approximation. The differential cross sectionshave been calculated over the complete angular range for incident energies of 30, 50,100 and 200 eV and compared with available experimental data and other theoreticalresults. The present results demonstrate for the first time the effects of absorption on theelectron-molecule elastic scattering.
