A simple semi-empirical formula for calculating the electronic stopping power forlow energy heavy ions has been obtained using a screened Coulomb potential on thebasis of a Thomas-Fermi model of atoms. Main features of the formula are theasymmetry and the mutual independency with respect to the atomic numbers ofincident ion Z. and target atom Z.. By adjusting two parameters concerning chargestate of the projectile and degree of ionization of atomic electrons in the target by thecollision, the formula is able to fit available experimental data to within - 10 to 20'/between the energy range 5 to 30 KeV/amu.
