Ton heating by the strong current in the Texas Turlrulent Tortus has been investigatedwith the charge exchange fast neutral measurement with respect to correlation with acurrent penetration into the plasma column. At relatively low density (o:2x10"cm '), the number of heated tons increases as the<current pencctrates into the centralregion of plasma column until the current peak (t : 1.5 psec). l on energy distri buttonfunction is Bi-Maxwellian and bulk ions are heated up to temperature in excess of 300eV at about 200 nsec from the start of heating currernt. Temperature of the hugh energytail, of which population is several % of total ions, incxreases to a maximum temperatureof 3.5 keV at 0.8 psec. At high density (n : 7 x 10" CITI '), tempc>rat evolution of radialdistribution of heated Tons shows that energetic ion production is restricted within theskin current region during 1.5psec.
