By nteans of the Fot?rier tr'ansforna and an amplitude expansion, tlte Navier-Stokes equation is x'educed to a weakly non-linear equation for E, the slowlyvarying complex amplittude of an envelope of a quasi-naonochronaatic disturbance.The equation retains non-linear terms consisting of the spatial derivative of theamplitude, t8?E?"/8x and ?E?"8E/8x, which have been omitted as higher orderterms in the third order analysis deriving the non-linear Sc]tr6dinger type equa-tion. The coefficients of these terms are revealed to be nruch larger than that ofE?E?'. This fact tells us that the behavior of the disturbance is influenced by veryweak non-periodicity. Numerical calculations of the amplitude equation areperfornted in order to examine this behavior.
