High pressure forms of Ce were studied by n'xeans of a Guinier type X-raydiffraction apparatus using Bridgman anvils and boron-epoxy ntedium. A newallotropic phase of a tetragonal body-centered lattice with two atoms per unit cellwas found to exist at pressures higher than 121 kbar. Above 51 kbar, powderpatterns corresponding to a' phase were obtained using Bridgman anvils as wellas a cubic press, but the crystalline structure could not be determined.
