A theory for studying the ultrasonic attenuation due to interaction of conductingelectrons and acoustical phonons in metals is evolved at low temperatures and zeromagnetic field starting from primary physical constants and using basic potentials. The same is tested for the case of noble metals. It i$ observed that the attenuation increases rapidly as temperature is lowered and is very high around 10 K. The availableexperimental evidences are found in support of the present results.
