• The propagation of ton acoustic double layers in a plasma containing a negativespecies of ions has been investigated theoretically. It has been found that this type ofdouble layer exists when the electric potential is positive and the negative ton concen-tration is greater than some limiting value. It has also been shown that the doublelayers discussed in this paper may explain the recent observations on the auroral fieldlines.
