The hypersonic sound velocities in Polystyrene (quinccline) and polystyrene(pyridine) gets, quinoline and pyridine liquids and the cross-linked polystyrenepolymer are measured using the technique of Brillc>uin scattering as a function of tem-perature. Comparing these results with the theory of Marqusee and Deutch, we findthe sound velocities in the present gels excellently agree with the theoretical ones considering the strong coupling (2 = 1 ) between the elastic waves in the polystyrene network and the solvent quinoline or pyridine. The values of tire estimated elastic conslant of longitudinal waves of the swollen polystyrene network are in the order of 10'N? m ', which nearly equal to the values of gum-like polymers in the high frequencyregion.
