• There are two kinds of dephasing (phase relaxation): statistical phase relaxation(SPR) and quantum-mechanical phase relaxation (QPR). SPR comes from statisticalensemble averaging. QPR comes from the trace over an environmental system. SPRrepresents a dynamic process of an ensemble but QPR represents one of an individualmember of the ensemble. This classification makes the meaning of dephasing clear. Aspectroscopic interpretation of dephasing is described.
