We have succeeded in obtaining the nucleation rate and velocity of the travelling ofsteps from the nucleation and growth processes of polymer crystallization, utilizingthe enhanced growth at re-entrant corners of {110} twinned crystals of polyethylene. The supercooling dependence of nucleation rate is two times as strong as that ofgrowth rate; this fact suggests that the growth is by multi-nucleation (regime II). Thevelocity of steps is proportional to the concentration of solution and nucleation rateis independent of the concentration over the usual concentration range. These relalions suggest that the growth face is saturated with adsorbed polymer molecules andthe travelling of steps is controlled by the volume diffusion ot' polymer in the solution. The method described can be applied to other systems which have the same type of re-entrant corner.
