Interaction between an ton beam and turbulent waves which are excited by anaxial electron current in a beam-generated plasma along a magnetic field line isinvestisated exrerimentallv. The correlation lennth 2. of the turbu?ent waves iscontrolled and varied widely by changing 'the electron drift velocity. The energys*ctrum of the ion beam r>assed throush the turbulent rlasma alons the mamneticfield line is measured with a 90' deflection electrostatic energy analyzer. When2. -1 /k., the maximum broadening of the energy spectrum of the beam due to theinteraction with ton acoustic turbulence is observed where k. is the characteristicwave number of the turbulent waves. When 2.>>1/k., the broadening is found tobe approximately proportional to 1/=y'2.. These experimental results agree withresults derived from the theory of stochastic heating, qualitatively.
